About Motcha

Work through the letters of a daily word, naming as many words as you can for each starting letter before its timer ends. Four languages are available.

Motcha is free to play in your browser — no download and no account needed. Like every good daily game it serves everyone the same challenge each day, so you can compare results with friends and keep your streak alive. Come back tomorrow for a fresh round.

What is Motcha?

Motcha is a timed vocabulary game played one starting letter at a time. A shared daily word supplies the letters for the rounds. For each letter, your task is to enter as many valid words beginning with it as you can before the timer runs out. The game offers French, English, Italian, and Spanish. You select the language and difficulty before playing, so the same basic idea can be a relaxed vocabulary exercise or a much faster recall challenge.

The daily word sets the rounds

The letters of the daily word are separate prompts, not a prefix that every answer must contain. If an illustrative round uses H, answers such as home and happy match that starting letter. A later O round calls for words such as ocean and open instead. Normal gives you 60 seconds with a two-letter minimum; Hard gives 30 seconds with a three-letter minimum; Ultra gives 15 seconds with a five-letter minimum and requires accents. The daily source word itself is forbidden, as are duplicates, apostrophes, and numbers. An accepted word earns one point, while an invalid entry earns none.

How to play a session

  1. Select the language you want to play and a difficulty level.
  2. Start the daily game and read the current letter.
  3. Enter valid words that begin with that letter and meet the mode's minimum length.
  4. Continue through the letters of the daily source word, adapting to each new prompt.
  5. Review the total of accepted words when the session finishes.

Tips for keeping words flowing

Switch between groups of vocabulary when one runs dry: household objects, actions, animals, and places can each suggest fresh words. Because accepted words are worth one point each, a short valid answer is useful when the selected mode permits it. Avoid spending a whole round chasing a single elaborate word. In Ultra, prepare for the length and accent requirements before starting; the shorter timer gives you less room to correct an avoidable spelling mistake.
