About Expresso

Expresso is a daily word puzzle where you guess a hidden expression or idiom (multiple words) letter by letter. The game reveals the number of words and their lengths upfront, plus color-coded feedback to help you crack the full phrase.

Expresso is free to play in your browser — no download and no account needed. Like every good daily game it serves everyone the same challenge each day, so you can compare results with friends and keep your streak alive. Come back tomorrow for a fresh round.

What is expresso game?

Expresso flips the classic word-guessing formula on its head by challenging you to uncover an entire secret expression — a phrase, idiom, saying, or common collocation — instead of a single word. The puzzle shows you the structure right away: how many words are in the expression and the exact letter count for each one. Every guess you make feeds back color-coded clues across the whole phrase, turning it into a strategic battle of deduction and linguistic intuition. What makes it surprisingly addictive is the “aha!” moment when scattered letters suddenly form a familiar expression you use every day but couldn’t quite recall under pressure. It’s more challenging than single-word games because context spans multiple words, yet the upfront structure gives you a fighting chance. Perfect for players who love Letroso, Contexto, or classic Wordle but want a fresh multi-word twist.

expresso Game Rules

  1. The game displays the skeleton upfront: e.g., [5] [3] [4] meaning a 3-word expression with those letter counts.
  2. Submit any valid guess that matches the exact word lengths and total letters.
  3. Green = correct letter in the correct position (anywhere in the phrase).
  4. Yellow = correct letter but in the wrong position.
  5. Grey = letter does NOT appear in the secret expression at all.
  6. Letters can belong to any of the words — no separation between words in feedback.
  7. You have a generous number of attempts (usually more than standard Wordle) but the pressure builds as the grid fills with clues.

How To Play expresso game?

  1. Load today’s puzzle — Go to expresso.ac/en/ and see the empty grid with the word-length structure clearly shown at the top.
  2. Make your opening guess — Type a full expression that matches the letter counts (e.g., if it shows [3][5][2], try something like “the quick brown” style length).
  3. Refine with feedback — Use greens to lock positions, reposition yellows, and avoid all greys. Try expressions that fit the emerging pattern.
  4. Close in on victory — Test your best hypothesis for the full expression. When every letter turns green, the puzzle reveals the exact phrase and its meaning.
  5. Celebrate and repeat — View your stats, share your score, then come back tomorrow for a brand-new secret expression.

Strategy & Tips

  1. Start with common expressions or idioms that match the revealed lengths to quickly test frequent letters (A, E, I, O, T, etc.).
  2. Pay close attention to the overall meaning — the clues often point toward a thematic category (time, love, success, etc.).
  3. Use eliminated grey letters aggressively to narrow future guesses.
  4. When stuck, think of synonyms or variations of emerging partial words.
  5. Play previous days from the archive to practice without daily pressure.
